Welcome Salve friends—please scroll down . . . .

Welcome Smith friends,

Thank you for visiting the Tri-4-Drew Website. While considering how I might be able to offer Drew and Fran assistance I began to reflect on those significant periods in my life that left a indelible mark in my liffe. My Smith experience was just such an experience.

Having attended the School for Social Work, I spent three intensive years on the Smith campus studying, but as importantly, developing wonderful relationships with both peers and professors. The Smith environment offered diversity, intellectual stimulation, and an great opportunity for personal growth.

I am grateful for my Smith experience and believe I carry it with me today in whatever role I find myself in. Whether it be in my role as a clinical social worker, massage therapist, friend, husband, Dad or most recently fundraiser, Smith has significantly contributed to the way in which I interface with the world. The challenging nature and the sense of accomplishment that is so much part of the Smith experience is one of the driving forces behind taking on this fundraiser.

I once again thank you for visiting the website. I hope you will consider being a part of this effort for Drew and Kelley. Should you decide to do so, I will be honored to carry with me your thoughts and best wishes for Drew and Kelley in Arizona on April 15th.

Sincerely,

George (G.F.) Piers '94

Dear Salve friends,

Thank you for taking the time to visit the web site. I do think of my years at Salve often. There are times when my years at Salve seem very distant. More often though they seem like just yesterday. Having attended Salve with two of my brothers allows for many opportunities to reflect on our time spent in Newport. These reflections are often accompanied by resounding laughter. Even at the time I think I was aware of just how unique my college experience was.

I remember one of my roommates freshmen year said something like, "Can you believe we go to school here? This campus is gorgeous. Look at our dorms. The ocean is right there."

He was right. It was a special time. There was a wonderful sense of community—a community of young people establishing themselves and finding their way. Salve, I guess like most colleges, provided a sort of buffer. It was sort of a testing ground to experience, grow and refine.

With a few exceptions, I don't think I would change much about my experience while at Salve. I learned much about myself. Salve provided a foundation from which I would be able to build my future. I believe it did the same for many of those with whom I spent my time. I experienced and witnessed any number of times that driving force to grow. I experienced and witnessed the sense that no matter how uncomfortable, awkward, or even unbelievable we may have interpreted our circumstances to have been, that deep within there was always gentle push or nudge, a quiet inner voice guiding us to have the courage to make steps in the direction of growth. I continue to try, to try to the best of my ability to listen to that voice and to be aware of the gentle pushes or nudges I receive today.

I was nudged recently, nudged to contemplate how I might best be able to help two people—one who means a great deal to me and another whom I have just become familiar with. This gentle push led me to enter Ironman Arizona. The quiet voice encouraging me to have faith that in doing so some assistance would be made available to these people.

So it is here I ask for your support. This fundraising effort is taking shape. It is coming together little by little, piece by piece. It feels right. I can tell because of the peace I feel. And I promise you I will be prepared for April 15th, race day.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this worthwhile cause.

Sincerely,

George (GF) Piers

How you can help

I am asking people to join my effort by buying a TRI-FOR wrist band. My family and friends have donated the cost of the bands so that all the proceeds from every sale will go to Drew and Kelley.

I hope you'll join me in this cause and thank you.

Sincerely,

George Piers (email me)
